The Barbados Orchid Society (BOS) was founded in 1939. The objective of the Society is to promote, encourage and improve orchid culture in the island by lectures, demonstrations and periodic shows, and through house meetings and affiliations with other associations of persons having similar objectives.

A Brief History
In the early years plants and flowers were exhibited at the Barbados Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition held annually during the first week in December at Queen's Park. The first exhibits were staged in a small wooden booth. The display became so popular that by the early fifties the Agricultural Society had expanded the orchid section to three large, thirty-foot metal enclosures which were filled with many varieties of tropical orchids of every colour.
